Chatedral S.Maria Annunziata

The Cathedral, begun in 1453 dedicated to Santa Maria Annunziata, has the same style of Santa Anastasia, Verona Cathedral; it was consecrated in 1502.

Charles Borromeo visited it in 1580. In 1797 and following years the Cathedral was devastated two to the Napoleonic Campaign. Since 1807, with the law passed by the Kingdom of Italy, important acquisitions of paintings from other suppressed Salodian churches took place.

The campaign of restoration to the ruinous earthquake of 1901 is remembered with a plaque on the counter-façade. Since 1974 it has been recognized as a national monument.

On the 15th of August in the square of the Cathedral you are waiting for the concert of the city band.

The facade remained rough; the central portal is in Renaissance style (early 16th century), while the two side doors are in Gothic style (mid-fifteenth century).
