Giardini d’Agrumi 2026 in Gargnano: the scent of lemons on Lake Garda

Every spring, a small village on Lake Garda transforms into an open-air stage dedicated to one of the most iconic fruits of the Mediterranean.

The Giardini d'Agrumi 2026 in Gargnano returns on April 18 and 19 for its tenth edition, bringing with it the unmistakable aroma of lemons, the warmth of the local community, and the beauty of places normally inaccessible to the general public.

If you are planning a visit to Lake Garda in spring, this event is one of those experiences not to be missed.

Where and when: an event with deep roots

Giardini d'Agrumi takes place in the historic center of Gargnano, a charming village on the Brescia side of Lake Garda, just a few kilometers from Salò. The event unfolds through the village streets, along the historic routes of Via Quarcina, Via Crocefisso, Via San Giacomo and the Villa district, reaching as far as the hamlet of Bogliaco.

The organizational heart of the event is the Terre & Sapori d'Alto Garda Cooperative, founded with the mission of promoting the agricultural and landscape traditions of the Upper Brescia area of Lake Garda. Thanks to their work — and the generous cooperation of private owners — dozens of lemon houses, usually closed, open their gates to visitors every year.

The event was first established in 2015, and since then it has gained increasing popularity, becoming one of the most anticipated cultural events of the Garda spring season. The tenth edition in 2026 therefore represents a significant milestone, a celebration of a tradition that brings together culture, nature, and local identity.

The limonaie (lemon houses) are at the heart of it all: monumental structures made of stone and wood, true architectural gems, built from the 15th century onwards to protect lemon trees from the winter cold.

Unique in the world for their construction technique and the Garda microclimate that makes them possible, they are at the center of an ongoing restoration and enhancement project that Giardini d'Agrumi actively supports each year.

What to see at Giardini d’Agrumi: scents, colors and flavors to discover

Imagine walking among ancient stone walls, with the scent of citrus blossoms in the air and glimpses of the blue lake appearing between branches heavy with yellow fruit: this is the kind of atmosphere that Giardini d'Agrumi creates with rare naturalness.

The program is structured around several elements that make the experience complete and suitable for every type of visitor. The Cloister of San Francesco is the exhibition heart of the event, where you can admire:

  • a pomological table featuring over 50 varieties of citrus fruits grown in the Upper Garda area, from the most common lemons to rare and nearly forgotten species;
  • a collection of ancient tools used in lemon houses, a tangible testimony of a craft passed down through generations;
  • a thematic photo exhibition dedicated to the history and landscape of the lemon houses;
  • a bookshop focused on citrus fruits, lemon houses, and the Garda area, for those who wish to explore the topic further at home.

The cloister will also be enriched with spectacular citrus floral installations, transforming the space into a visual display capable of impressing even returning visitors.

Walking along the historic paths of the village, visitors will be able to explore 25 lemon houses and private gardens, exceptionally open for the occasion. Inside, you will find century-old trees, hidden terraces, and lake views that look like paintings.

Enhancing the experience is the extraordinary opening with guided tours of the magnificent garden of Palazzo Bettoni-Cazzago in Bogliaco, one of the most beautiful historic gardens on Lake Garda.

The event calendar also includes cultural activities, workshops, and sensory experiences dedicated to the world of citrus, accompanied by musical moments and a market offering citrus fruits and local specialties.

For the occasion, restaurants and bars in Gargnano offer themed menus inspired by local flavors, while local accommodations provide special packages designed for a weekend discovering the event and the surrounding area.

The much-awaited Giardini d'Agrumi by boat experience also returns: a unique opportunity to admire the lemon houses from the lake, departing from the port of Gargnano. This activity requires a separate ticket, with details available on site.

Tickets and entry: how it works

One of the most appreciated aspects of Giardini d'Agrumi is its accessibility. All scheduled events are free to attend, unless otherwise specified. However, a voluntary donation is appreciated to help cover organizational costs.

Some specific activities — such as the boat tour — require a separate fee, with information available directly on site. The event takes place even in case of rain, so there is no need to change your plans based on the weather forecast.

For the detailed and updated program, it is recommended to visit the official website of Terre & Sapori or the cooperative’s Facebook page, where all updates for the 2026 edition are published.

Gargnano and surroundings: beyond the event

Taking part in Giardini d'Agrumi also means immersing yourself in everything that Gargnano has to offer, far beyond the two days of the event. It is one of those villages where simply turning into a random alley can lead to breathtaking lake views or ancient doorways that tell centuries of silent history.

During the event weekend, the streets of the historic center come alive with stalls, visitors, and fragrances, creating a festive atmosphere that blends perfectly with the natural tranquility of the place.

The Garda lemon houses, the undisputed stars of the event, deserve special mention: extraordinary architectural structures built with stone columns and wooden frames that are removed in summer to let in the air and closed in winter to protect the plants. They exist nowhere else in the world with such density and in such a remarkable state of preservation.

Nearby, a visit to Villa Bettoni-Cazzago in Bogliaco is highly recommended, open with guided tours during the event: one of the most elegant historic villas on Lake Garda, with its Italian-style garden overlooking the water.

For those wishing to extend their day, nearby villages such as Toscolano Maderno and Tignale also offer charming views and atmospheres.

A weekend to fully experience: water, lake, and light

There is something special about Lake Garda in April: the light is still soft, the shores are not crowded, and the landscape has that suspended quality typical of early spring. After a morning among lemon houses and citrus scents, the most natural way to extend that feeling is to turn to the water.

A boat tour with Beeboatservice allows you to explore the Garda coastline from a completely different perspective: the same lemon houses visited on foot become, from the lake, dramatic structures clinging to the rock, with the yellow and green colors of citrus contrasting with the blue of the water.

It is a way to take home an unforgettable image of Lake Garda, completing a weekend that begins with the scents of the land and ends with the wind on your face and the lake all around you.
